Andy Vogel | Series ScorerIf all of your friends started going to the races, would you go too? It certainly is a good thing that Andy Vogel followed his friends’ lead in the mid 80s.
Vogel is the head scorer for the Mid-American Stock Car Series. He brings over two decades of short-track working experience, a calming demeanor, and a great sense of humor to each and every MASCS event.
Jefferson Speedway was the first home track for Vogel. For the first three years, he did the yeoman’s work by parking cars and working in the brat stand. He was brought to the tower in 1990 by current Mid-American Competition Director John Kamenick to start line scoring.
Nine years later, Kamenick brought Vogel with him to Madison International Speedway. From 1999 until last season when Vogel joined Mid-American, his Friday and Saturday nights were booked throughout the entire summer. Vogel still calls MIS home on Friday nights.
Vogel started working for Mid-American on a part time basis in 2006 and 2007 when he received a call from the Strasburgs, who he had known since the early 90s. His first full year was the 2008 season.
Vogel is very thankful to his good friend Kamenick who gave him his start at Jefferson and Madison. He is also very thankful to Jefferson Speedway owner Terry Tucker for letting him prove himself as a scorer throughout the 1990s.
A final thanks is in order to Vogel’s wife of seven years, Gail. Without Gail’s support, Vogel would not be able to enjoy going to the races every weekend and getting paid to watch a hobby. It works out well for Gail, however. She gets lobster every time the Vogels head to La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway.
