MEMORIAL DAY 2008
John 15:13 'Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.'
According to Webster's Encyclopedia, '...today is a special day we as Americans set aside to remember the dead of all wars.' When I look back on the history of our great country, I can not help but see the blood stains. We read history books and newspaper articles about the wars that have been fought (and are still fighting) to perserve our freedom; but until one personally 'experiences' the blood that it cost by losing a loved one, it doesn't have the same effect. These lives were 'laid down' out of a demonstration of true, sacraficial love. This is the love that our country was founded on. Many of our fore fathers had experienced personally, the love of someone who laid down His life for them. The words of our verse today were spoken by Jesus Himself before His death on the cross. He saw the war that raged in the heart of every man because of sin and understood that that war could never be won without the shedding of blood, so He willingly shed His blood. He not only talked about love, He demonstrated it. Have you personally experienced this love? Would you like to? All you need to do is ask Him.
